It has been a challenging time for the world and for our community of St. John's.
We lost members of our community; Please remember Steve, Ann, Larry, Barbara, and Frank. We mourn their loss. Please keep them and their families in your prayers. We had people who suffered from Covid-19. We pray for each person still suffering and who continue to become ill.
Yes, it has been a tough time, but we have stayed strong as a community, kept in touch with each other the best way we could.
We kept in touch through Facebook, Instagram and email. We met on Zoom for Sunday services. We saw each other well-masked and socially distanced at St. John's when we could have services.
We are grateful for each of you. For the ways you supported each other. Took care of people who lived alone. You made certain people had food, comfort and made it to doctor appointments. We are small in number and powerful in community.
We are grateful for The Rev. Barry Signorelli who officiated services online and in-person. A big thank you to Bruce Parker, Barry's husband who has managed the Zoom services and made sure recordings were sent out in a timely fashion. Barry has been the supply priest for us since Father Tim left. He has been generous in his support and providing continuity in our worshipping together. The pandemic stalled our search for a permanent priest, but we will shortly move forward.
Thank you to Deacon John who has been a spiritual force when we needed it. Thank you to Robert Gangewere for providing beautiful music under difficult circumstances. Thank you to the many volunteers from acolytes, lectors, welcomer's and others who made certain worship happened either in person or online.
Thank you to our Wardens; Sharon and Debbie, the vestry (http://stjohnsboonton.org/people) some who stayed past their time, Ellen our treasurer. Each of them worked incredibly hard and behind the scenes to make certain repairs were made, bills paid, the lights worked and the property was maintained. Thank you to Ron Riegel who made sure the landscaping was done and snow was removed. We couldn't have done what needed to be done without the many hands working quietly and diligently.
Whew. There are so many thanks to give out. If we missed anyone please let us know - email@example.com.
June 13 we had a visit with The Rt. Rev. Carlye J. Hughes - via Zoom. She encouraged us to begin our search for a new priest in earnest. We elected a new vestry and the vestry began to meet in person. We are doing lots of work on the property, the porches on both the Rectory and the Wilson House need repair, and the church ceiling. We also need to repair the protective glass over the stained glass window in the church hall.
The church office will be moving to the church basement by September. Arrangements will be made now for the phone lines so that the internet will be available.
Outreach We participated in the activities for Boonton Pride day and had a sign on the front lawn. Saturday Luncheon Social, we plan to offer lunch in September, if the diocese allows it. Currently we could only offer a pre-packaged meal to go, and not offer the social part of the luncheons. We will have a table at Boonton Day the end of September. We are thinking about what to give out. So far, we will offer mini pumpkins and raffle off flowering plants. We plan to have coffee hour outside in July. We are also planning many other outreach events. Look to this page for updates.
